IBEW Local 1049 Calls on Community to Donate Blood

Holtsville, NY – October 29, 2020 - The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1049 announces they are partnering with the New York Blood Center to host a community blood drive on Halloween Day. The drive will take place at Local 1049’s Union Hall, at 100 Corporate Dr in Holtsville from 8:30 am through 2:30 pm.  To make an appointment, go to IBEW1049.ORG and follow the provided link.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has created blood shortages for all of New York. Donated blood is essential for trauma and surgery patients in need. We encourage healthy New Yorkers to take time from their Halloween activities to donate,” said NYC Health + Hospitals President and CEO, Mitchell Katz, MD. “Transfusions are truly lifesaving and our patients rely on the generosity of blood donors on a daily basis.”

“NYC Health + Hospitals provides essential medical services to over a million New Yorkers.  IBEW Local 1049 is very pleased to partner together to host this imperative blood drive,” said Patrick Guidice, Business Manager, IBEW Local 1049. “We will be following the strictest health and safety measures.  All donors must also wear protective face masks.” 

Guidice continued, “1049 is one of the largest private sector labor unions on Long Island with over 4,200 members and we support Long Island in every way we can.  Now is the time to come together to stand by our community.”

Local 1049s representational jurisdiction covers all utility work on the National Grid U.S. and Long Island Power Authority/ PSEG LI properties. It also represents members who perform electric transmission and distribution, construction and maintenance, line clearance tree trimming, gas line transmission, construction and maintenance, traffic control flagging, environmental restoration, wood pole restoration, grounds maintenance, right of way maintenance, power plant valve repair and replacement, electric generation turbine repair and tele-data.
