As you barbecue, get that last afternoon at the beach, or just spend time wondering where the summer went, take a minute and talk about this history with your kids. Make sure that they understand that this holiday isn't just about selling more backpacks for back-to-school, but rather it is a day to honor the working man and woman.
On Monday we celebrate the workers holiday, Labor Day. On the first Monday of September, we honor the hard work that all workers put in every day. For union members it is also a good time to reflect on the benefits that we have fought so hard for. Things like a safe job and a fair day's pay were once unheard of, especially in the electrical industry. However, thanks to the hard work of IBEW members from across the country these are now standards.
