The temperatures during this pandemic summer are heating up and we have felt the worst over this past weekend with the heat index making it feel close to 100 degrees!
This heat storm is just part of the record breaking temps we have been dealing with throughout the month of July. Even a report by the New York Times said that this summer is on track to be the hottest on record. So be advised brothers and sisters, this ain't over yet!
That said, as long as the forecasts are predicting extreme heat, I implore you all to make sure you are taking all necessary precautions to protect yourselves and your loved ones. It's weather like this that can be especially dangerous for the elderly, young children and people with respiratory and cardiac illness. Stay cool and hydrated.
I am so proud of all of you for doing your jobs every day. Despite the unrelenting heat, our brothers and sisters are doing their jobs to provide comfort and safety for our Long Island neighbors. Local 1049 members are the best at what we do and we are committed to our duty. From our members toiling in the extreme heat of the electric power plants to meet the demand for more megawatts of power to gas workers working hard breaking hot asphalt streets to line workers in heavy rubber and protective equipment keeping the "fire in the wire!". Also, many thanks to our Clerical workforce in Customer Operations and T&D Operations that are working from home remotely to help support our field workers and our customers on Long Island. We salute your efforts in your jobs and what you do every day. Hero's all! IBEW 1049 Strong!
Your hard work does not go unnoticed. Dan Eichhorn, President and COO of PSEGLI and John Bruckner President of New York Operations of National Grid called Local 1049 the other day to acknowledge the sacrifices and efforts made by their employees during this stressful month. We want to share their kind words with everyone.
